Job Summary:
The purpose of this position withing the organization is to assist in supervision of the natatorium at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center. This position also acts as a shift supervisor for the lifeguards at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center and participates in the work of lifeguards.
Major Duties:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation of the aquatic center and the parks and recreation department.
- Assists the Aquatic Manager in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Communicates policies and procedures to staff via frequent staff meetings at least monthly.
- Resolves staff problems and issues.
- Assists in training new lifeguards.
- Maintains files and records.
- Acts as a shift supervisor working primarily evenings and weekends, and during the day as needed.
- Assists Aquatic Manager in evaluating staff.
- Ensures that swimming pools are operational during shift.
- Tests pool chemicals regularly and records results.
- Provides assistance to patrons.
- Provides first aid as needed.
- Maintains shift reports, chemical logs, and in-service logs.
- Maintains records of supplies and equipment inventory and recommends necessary purchases to Aquatics Manager.
- Provides emergency response as needed.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience
- Two years of increasingly responsible experience in lifeguarding and general supervisory practices including aquatics related operations/environments (ex. Working in a pool facility, working with lifeguards, etc.), or any experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of lifeguarding positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems.
Training
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard and Standard First Aid.
- Current certification in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR certification by another nationally recognized agency.
The successful candidate must pass a Background/Reference Check, and Pre-Employment Drug Screenings prior to the start of employment.
