The City of Sandersville, GA is recruiting for a Public Works Director.  The Director is responsible for directing the public works operations. 

 

The Director leads a team to provide high quality services to maintain and improve the streets, parks, storm drains and fleet for the City of Sandersville.  In addition, the Director is responsible for grounds maintenance in the parks, the collection of solid waste and upkeep of the city cemetery.  The Director is the administrative head of the department, and his/her duties include preparing budgets, overseeing purchasing and spending for the department and managing the personnel assigned to this function. Public Works is a core responsibility of the City and the work of this department is visible and important to the overall quality of life for the residents of Sandersville.

The day-to-day operations of the City are led by an appointed City Manager, Sharon Eveland, supported by nearly 100 full and part-time employees across nine departments.  In addition to traditional government services, the City operates power, sanitation, and water and sewer utilities.  The City of Sandersville operates on a calendar fiscal year (January 1 - December 31).  The approved General Fund budget for FY 24 is $9,431,390.  Including enterprise funds, the City’s total budget is over $55,000,000.

 

This position will be counted on to lead their department independently and to maintain and improve the city’s infrastructure to meet the communities’ high expectations.   The position requires the successful candidate to meet the following qualifications:

 

• Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field is required. Significant directly related work experience beyond the minimum requirement may be accepted in lieu of degree.

 

• At least five years of related technical experience, including three years of supervisory experience, is required.

 

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. 

 

Salary Range is $65,823 - $92,168 and is under management review.  Relocation expenses are negotiable
