Listing Summary

The City of Fort Valley, Georgia is seeking a highly competent, qualified candidate with the passion, management experience, and technical prowess to serve as its City Administrator. Fort Valley is a full-service city, including progressive and professional fire and police departments and an innovative city-owned utility service, serving approximately 8,800 residents with an annual budget of $10.2 million. The City Administrator is chiefly responsible for independently organizing the City's daily functional operations and will chart the course for Fort Valley's sustainable growth and development, partnering with key public and private stakeholders including the Blue Bird Corp. and Fort Valley State University.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for the Fort Valley City Administrator position has comprehensive local government management experience, including personnel and finance management, project management, and utility system management. A successful candidate will value responsible governance and have excellent interpersonal skills, balancing the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders. Special projects include, but are not limited to, oversight of city elections, preparation and administration of the City’s adopted budget, and management of the City’s pension and retirement plan in accordance with the Georgia Municipal Association.

Minimum Qualifications

The City Administrator should, at minimum, have a bachelor’s degree in business management, public administration, political science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a municipal administrator. Additional years of progressively responsible work experience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis. This candidate must have or be readily able to obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License and must have or be able to obtain notary public certification within six months of employment start date.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience with a range of $93,000-$99,000. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance along with a retirement plan.
