This position is responsible managing, guiding, and directing operations of the County’s communication, media relations, and event planning functions to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services in accordance with expected standards and guidelines; ensuring transparency and building trust through the dissemination of timely, accurate and dependable information. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work activities for public relations, website, social media, television channel(s), business, marketing, and customer service: prioritizes work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex and problem situations and provide technical expertise; and provides progress and activity reports to County administration and elected officials.

 

Serves as spokesperson for the County: responds to media inquiries and questions, including after-hours and weekend media requests; provides print and broadcast interviews as needed; manages essential and time-critical communication activities; and serves as media manager for events within the County for emergencies as needed.

 

Develops, implements and updates policies and procedures for department: formulates and develops work methods and practices, policies, standard operating procedures, and training programs; monitors implementation of rules and regulations; and updates policies and procedures as required.

 

Schedules, coordinates, and administers special events, shows, and community activities, including, but not limited to: Paulding Rides for Wishes, Alcohol Drug and Awareness Day, holiday door judging contests, etc.

 

Responds to requests for information and provides subject-matter-expert guidance to

other departments, County Administration, senior management, the general public

and/or outside agencies; briefs the Board of Commissioners on agenda items.

 

Knowledge required: Knowledge of budget management, marketing and public relations principles.

knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skilled in administering and delivering planning of interrelated activities. Skilled in communicating complex subject matters in a manner that resonates with the public.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years’ experience working in a communication, marketing, or public relations-related position. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

 

Position is non-Civil Service Department Head, subject to Chairman’s nomination and BOC’s confirmation; serves at the pleasure of the BOC. Salary range $62,230.38-94,690.89 commensurate with experience, qualifications, etc. and includes comprehensive benefits package.
