Job Summary

Performs maintenance and repair of Sheriff’s Office Buildings and Facilities, HVAC units, electrical, plumbing fixtures and piping, building exteriors finishes, doors, roofs and windows, Interior, doors, hardware, finishes.  Duties are performed under the limited supervision of the Lieutenant / Jail Administrator / Jail Division.

Essential Functions

* Participates, in the building maintenance and repair.

*Analyze HVAC mechanical operational problems in county owned facilities.

*Analyze Electrical operational problems in county owned facilities.

*Analyze Plumbing operational problems in county owned facilities.
* Makes routine repairs to HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical devices when instructed.

*Makes routine repairs to interior and exterior doors and hardware, electrical fixtures, windows, and plumbing   fixtures. 

*Performs routine scheduled maintenance as directed.

*Performs position related duties as required with regular and reliable attendance.

*Complies with Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.

*Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Job Performance

*Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and equipment used in repair and maintenance of county owned buildings and facilities.

*Thorough knowledge of HVAC systems, Plumbing, Electrical and Building fixtures in the maintenance of buildings and offices.

*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees, the general public, and outside agencies.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in building maintenance and repair, hvac, plumbing, electrical operations or equivalent combination of educations and experience.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

*This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force: work frequently standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; * vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, *visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, opera ting machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; *work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; *work is generally, in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Special Requirements

*Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State, and Federal records.

*Valid Class C Driver’s License in the State of Georgia with favorable driving history (MVR)
