 JOB SUMMARY 

This position performs environmental and erosion control inspections. 

MAJOR DUTIES 

  • Performs weekly inspections of job sites to ensure compliance with environmental and erosion control ordinances.
  • Enforces Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
  • Communicates with builders and property owners.
  • Understands and reviews erosion, soil, and protection control measures.
  • Receives and responds to citizen complaints.
  • Reviews renovations and pool construction plans.
  • Performs final inspections.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION 

  • Knowledge of environmental and erosion control inspection principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of inspection documentation and reporting principles.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the city, including roads, streets, and subdivisions.
  • Skill in the interpretation and application of regulations, codes, and ordinances.
  • Skill in dealing with the general public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS 

The City Engineer assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. 

GUIDELINES 

Guidelines include GSWCC ordinances, EPD regulations, local ordinances, and city and department policies and procedures.  These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK 

  • The work consists of varied technical and inspection duties.Heavy traffic and inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the complexity of the work.
  • The purpose of this position is to conduct environmental and erosion inspections and related reporting.  Successful performance in this position helps ensure compliance with relevant codes, ordinances, and regulations.

CONTACTS                                                                     

  • Contacts are typically with co‑workers, other city employees, contractors, property owners, representatives of state agencies, and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • The work is performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. 

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY 

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Associates degree required.
  • More than three years of related experience required; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background and Motor Vehicle checks.
  • Must successfully pass post-offer drug screening and physical.
