DEPARTMENT:       Sheriff's Office, Youth Investigations

ENTRY SALARY:    $22.07 per hour, plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY:     Performs professional level law enforcement tasks by providing and implementing the activities of a specified division of the Sheriff’s Office on an assigned shift. Performs various administrative duties to ensure the strict enforcement of Federal, State and Local laws relating to public safety and welfare. Participates in the implementation of Drug Education Programs, school resources and truancy programs provided by the department; provides law enforcement related services to schools; assists the principal’s office in maintaining administrative control; acts as a visible active law enforcement figure on campus; acts as a classroom resource regarding education of the law; acts as a resource for parents, teachers and students in dealing with legal situations and drug abuse; assists school staff with the detection and reporting of child abuse; investigates juvenile crimes. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
