Do you have a Bachelor’s Degree and background in Parks and Recreation management?  We are searching for a Deputy Director for the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department.

 

Examples of Duties: Under general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, you

  • Assist in developing, directing, and managing the overall operations of the Parks and Recreation Department, including programs, facilities, and personnel.
  • Plan, develop, schedule, direct and implement county-wide recreational programs and maintenance initiatives.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the department budget.
  • Monitor expenditures and write specifications for the purchase of equipment, materials, supplies, and contractual services.
  • Monitor environments to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals. 
  • Oversee recreation and sports programming for the County, including publication and distribution of marketing materials, community outreach, and promotional planning.
  • Utilize customer service skills as you interact with other County departments and the public. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Recreation Science, Public Administration, or related field; and
  • At least seven (7) years of management experience in Parks and Recreation management, and overall management of municipal infrastructure; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as Park and Recreation Professional or Park and Recreation Executive (CPRP/CPRE).

Successful candidates will possess these qualifications:

  • Knowledge of supervisory and administrative techniques and methods, including budget preparation methods.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of a wide variety of group social, recreational, and sports activities.
  • Ability to lead, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.
