JOB SUMMARY:

 Cleans and maintains public facilities, buildings and structures for public use by assuring all necessary custodial tasks are completed on a daily basis and in a timely manner. Working hours for position are 11:30 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  (All incumbents may not perform all duties.)

  •  Cleans and maintains public facilities, buildings and structures for public use by assuring all necessary custodial tasks are completed on a daily basis and in a timely manner.  
  • Cleans bathrooms including scrubbing and cleaning urinals, toilets, mopping the floor, emptying the trash, wiping the mirrors, and cleaning the sinks; replaces all paper products including toilet paper and hand towels as necessary.  
  • Empties the trash, vacuums the floor and cleans all rooms and facilities including court rooms, meeting rooms, and offices; sweeps floors.  
  • Dusts and cleans windows, walls, hallways, elevators, stairs, closets, shelves, and storage areas; polishes desks and railings as necessary. 
  • Reports any unusual circumstances to supervisor.  
  • Notifies supervisor of any stock that is low; receives and stores supplies.  
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

 

 Education and Experience:

  • Ability to read and write.
  • No experience required. 

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Class I Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of cleaning, and maintenance methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment and practices of custodial work.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and routine cleaning. 
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.  
  • Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning material.

Physical Ability: 

   Essential functions frequently require the ability to move oneself about the job site by walking; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; push or pull items; repetitively use hand/arms/legs; grasp items; and move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs. Incumbents frequently must handle stress and emotions; concentrate on tasks; discriminate colors; and examine/observe details. Essential functions frequently require the ability to maintain stamina during the workday; meet deadlines; operate equipment; and stay organized.

   Essential functions occasionally require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing); bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees;   ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; reach overhead; position oneself by crouching or kneeling; and move/transport items weighing between 26lbs and 50lbs. Incumbents occasionally must be able to think analytically; remember names and other details; make decisions; and adjust to changes. Essential functions occasionally require the ability to attend work related meetings and trainings; handle confidential information; and use math/calculations.

 

Sensory Ability: 

   Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.

 

Environmental Factors: 

   Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to biological and chemical hazards; dirt/mud, fumes, gasses, odors, and dust; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces. Incumbents frequently work alone or with others.

   Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to electrical and sharp objects/tools hazards; extreme dry environments; adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather; extreme hot or cold temperatures; grease and oil; moving mechanical parts; and extreme noise.

   Incumbents regularly must be able to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.
