JOB SUMMARY:
This individual will coordinate the Master Gardener program in Hall County, serve on several Boards and committees, and oversee volunteer management and program coordination to maintain a strong presence in the county in collaboration with Extension Agent.
Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, with occasional Mondays; weekend and evening responsibilities (not to exceed 32 hours per week).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents)
Manages the recruitment, screening, and training of the Master Gardner volunteers.
Supervises and supports Master Gardener volunteers for their programs; provides direction, guidance, and monitors volunteers’ performance using UGA volunteer management program tools.
Interact and communicate with program participants and volunteers in a variety of ways, including face-to-face, email, telephone, and social media, to answer questions, facilitate learning and develop and maintain good rapport.
Provide community outreach to educate citizens about horticultural issues with the assistance of Master Gardener volunteers.
Assist Extension Agent with horticultural inquiries from county residents.
Use technology, mass media, and personal contacts in the delivery and management of high-quality extension educational programs.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Other job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma required, undergraduate education in a related field preferred.
Must possess the ability to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers. Knowledge of gardening and knowledge of the Hall County Master Gardening program highly preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
None.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of gardening concepts and principles.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
ADA MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Ability: Essential functions of this position require the ability to be indoors in office setting in a stationary position (sitting or standing); operate a computer and other office machinery. Essential functions also require the ability to work in an outdoor setting actively coordinating and leading gardening projects and events.
Essential functions occasionally require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, and twisting at the waist, hips or knees; reach overhead; push or pull; and repetitively use hands/arms/legs.
Sensory Requirements: Essential functions regularly require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use equipment.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions of this position continuously require the ability to either work with others or work alone.
