Job Summary

This is skilled work in the repair and maintenance of a variety of automobiles, trucks, and heavy and light automotive equipment.

Work involves inspecting and diagnosing the condition of automotive equipment and completing repairs as needed. Work is reviewed by the vehicle maintenance superintendent through periodic inspections and the performance of equipment after repair.

  • Efficiently enters work orders into Help Desk System, as required.
  • Accurately diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services a wide variety of automotive equipment.
  • Accurately performs repairs to transmissions, brakes, engines, lawn equipment and hydraulic systems.
  • Accurately performs preventive maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, safety equipment checks, trouble-shoots electrical problems, greasing and lubricating equipment.
  • Promptly and timely responds to road service calls.
  • Safely operates various types of shop equipment, machinery and specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Safely operates bush hog, zero-turn mowers, weed eaters, backpack blowers, fleet vehicles, etc.
  • Correctly prepares maintenance reports.
  • Routinely performs routine maintenance and cleaning of shop and surrounding area.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of a standard high school diploma, GED or equivalent from a regionally or nationally accredited school. 

Licenses(s): Valid Georgia Commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred but not required for this position.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and construction equipment; or,

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

An incumbent/applicant may have any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job as long as the incumbent/applicant can show competencies in each.

Knowledge:

  • The tools, materials, methods and procedures used in maintaining and repairing automotive equipment.
  • Metal fabrication and welding.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skill and Abilities:

  • Electrical trouble shooting.
  • Repair of diesel and gas engines.
  • Inspection of various types of equipment and the determination of the type of repair needed.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Communicate using a two (2) way radio.
  • Operate manual clutch and transmission vehicles.
  • Supervise as needed, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees

Shift work, including Nights, Weekends and Holidays: This job occasionally requires working nights, weekends and/or holidays and on-call after hours, as needed.
