Listing Summary

The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter.  This position is responsible for protecting lives and property endangered by fires and other emergency situations.  The position requires working a rotating schedule, which runs 24.25 hours on shift and 48-hours off shift.

Major responsibilities include:

• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and performs firefighting work, including preventing, combating and extinguishing fires to protect lives, property and the environment.
• Rescue’s fire and accident victims utilizing the appropriate extrication methods and equipment.
• Provides emergency medical care within scope of practice.
• Quickly and effectively analyzes hazardous situations and take proper course of action.
• Participate in training, classes and drills in firefighting, emergency medical care, disaster response, hazardous materials, public safety education, and specialized rescue.
• Inspects assigned apparatus and equipment; cleans, repairs, and performs routine maintenance on same.
• Drives department vehicles, requiring a class C license, in emergency and non-emergency modes in response to calls for service, normal work requirements, and training.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Be able to obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license
• Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination
• Not have been convicted of a felony within the last ten (10) years (OCGA 25-4-8)

Applicants must be able to pass a written examination, physical agility test and background investigation.  Minimum starting salary is $43,237.34 plus excellent benefits. Base salary does not include any overtime pay or bonuses.  The position closes on November 8, 2024.
