Listing Summary

Sumter Local Government Consulting is assisting the City of College Park in recruiting for an Executive Director for the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), the Gateway Arena and the Historic College Park Golf Course.  The Executive Director is responsible for operating three complex business operations of the City of College Park.  Each of the facilities the Director manages are critical to the economic, cultural and tourism success of the City of College Park.  The position reports to the City Manager and is a critical member of the City’s executive leadership team.

A well-established community with an individuality all its own, College Park is located near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, on Interstates I-85 and I-285. Originating from a land grant awarded in 1846, and chartered in 1895, the City has the fourth largest urban historic district in Georgia, with 867 structures on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Director is responsible for overseeing an annual operating budget of $20 million, a capital improvement program, and a workforce of approximately 250 full and part-time employees. This role includes directing daily operations, from facility maintenance and staffing to event scheduling and marketing, ensuring that the GICC, Gateway Arena, and Historic Golf Course provide outstanding services to the community and visitors.  The GICC is the second-largest convention facility in Georgia, and Gateway Arena serves as a premier venue for sports and entertainment, including home games for the Atlanta Dream and the Atlanta Hawks’ development team.

In addition to managing daily operations, the Director oversees key financial areas, including P&L accountability, budget management, and contract administration. This individual will be tasked with promoting and developing facility usage for conventions, trade shows, and community events, collaborating on event bookings, and managing contracts to maximize the venues' occupancy and financial viability.

 

 

 

 

The position requires the successful candidate to meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Hospitality, or related field; Master’s preferred
  • 7–9 years in facility, event, or convention center management; government experience a plus Facilities management certification preferred
  • Strong business, event coordination, and public assembly knowledge
  • Experience with facility marketing, sales strategies, and revenue generation
  • Skilled in contract negotiation, compliance, and legal aspects of venue operations
  • Team management experience, with strengths in supervision and development
  • Strong communicator, experienced in diverse community engagement
  • Availability for extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
