Listing Summary
The Neighborhood Services Officer works under the general supervision of the Special Operations Commander and is responsible for fostering positive community relations by the use of outreach programs. This position is governed by law enforcement procedures, city, state and federal laws, rules and regulations and department policy.
Job Responsibilities:
- Patrols businesses and residential areas using an equipped patrol car; assists motorists and enforces motor vehicle and criminal laws including issuing citations and making arrests; operates the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) machine; books, guards and escorts prisoners; deals with juvenile offenders and assists other law enforcement agencies.
- Responds and investigates calls for service; protects crime scenes; assists CID when requested; collects and protects evidence; interviews victims, witnesses and suspects; takes reports from the public and businesses; investigates conditions and causes of accidents; prepares accident reports; directs traffic and controls activities in disaster areas; and makes contacts with business owners and residents to assist them in addressing problems of a law enforcement nature.
- Maintains a professional appearance through upkeep and maintenance of uniform and duty equipment and oneself.
- Becomes and remains familiar with patrol areas, geographic locations, known offenders, neighborhood routines, and potential problem areas.
- Appears in court to testify in traffic violations and criminal cases; and submits reports as requested.
- Creates partnerships with neighborhoods and businesses.
- Participates in the development and instruction of the Public Safety Academies.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Peripheral Duties:
- Maintains departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities.
- Maintains contact with general public, court officials, and other City officials in the performance of police operating activities.
- Serves as a member of various employee committees.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver’s license.
- Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories are not allowed.
- U. S. Citizen.
- Must be able to read and write the English language.
- Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits.
- You must be in good physical condition and meet medical standards as established by the City of Woodstock Police Department.
- At least 24 months of full-time paid service as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction prior to application.
- Completion of State Basic Training Academy (Georgia POST).
- Certified Police Officer
- Must be able to effectively communicate.
- Must be able to speak comfortable and effectively in small and large group settings.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver’s license.
- Ability to meet Department’s physical standards.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below:
- Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations;
- Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions;
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
- Ability to meet the special requirements listed below;
- Ability to learn the City’s geography.

Starting Base Pay Rate: $54,782.00 - $66,000.00 annually and based on experience and qualifications.
