JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting with the management of the county’s data, telecommunications and video surveillance network.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Maintains servers, switches, and routers.
  • Maintains printers, scanners, and all Peripheral devices.
  • Maintains the network (manages Active Directory). Manages users network credentials.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs network issues.
  • Sets up and installs new network endpoint devices.
  • Assists users with software issues.
  • Installs and maintains endpoint application software.
  • Install new and rebuild endpoint devices as appropriate.
  • Removes and replaces internal PC components.
  • Installs cameras and maintains camera systems.
  • Pulls cable and terminates drops as appropriate.
  • Installs and maintains wireless network infrastructure.
  • Sets up and maintains switched ethernet infrastructure.
  • Manages Email infrastructure.
  • Checks and maintains data backups.
  • Installs, maintains and monitors network security hardware and software.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of network functionality, IP address schemes and subnetting and firewall management.
  • Knowledge of PC software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of proper software installation and configuration.
  • Knowledge of endpoint (PC’s) operating system software.
  • Knowledge of network server operating system software
  • Knowledge and experience in virtualized server environment
  • Knowledge of IP address scheme and subnet mask, proper gateway configuration.
  • Knowledge of wiring scheme when terminating cable drops.
  • Skill in understanding a customer’s issue and working through the issue.
  • Skill in computers and all job-related software.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in basic troubleshooting.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Information Technology Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot- checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related information technology duties. Many hours to troubleshoot before determining the issue contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to maintain and manage the county data network infrastructure. Successful performance in this position helps ensure all county departments can access network resources to perform their duties and citizens can communicate with county government.

  • Contacts are typically co-workers and county departments.  
  • Contacts are typically to exchange information and to provide services; to give or exchange information and to resolve problems.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk, or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and computer room. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt or grease. The work is performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

      None.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an Associate’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.   
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of the subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
