JOB SUMMARY

The IT Technician's role is to support and maintain organizational computer systems, desktops, laptops, peripherals, wired and wireless network equipment, VOIP telephone systems and audio/video presentation equipment. Duties include installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all organizational hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user assistance where required.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Support development and deployment of new computer projects and new hardware installations.
  • Perform remote and on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of system problems for end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user and network hardware, peripheral devices, printing/scanning devices, presentation equipment, software, and other products to deliver required desktop service levels.
  • Administer, and resolve issues with associated end-user workstation network software products.
  • Support audio/visual equipment.
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, emails, and/or tickets regarding IT issues.
  • If necessary, consult with third-party support(software) and PC equipment vendors.
  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
  • Working with vendors which requires extensive times on the phone working through issues.
  • Ability to take notes and problem solve independently.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of PC software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of proper software installation and configuration.
  • Knowledge of endpoint (PC’s) operating system software.
  • Skill in understanding a customer’s issue and working through the issue.
  • Skill in computers and all job-related software.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in basic troubleshooting.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Information Technology Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot- checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include the confidentially contract and Upson County Employee Handbook. These guidelines require judgement, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The purpose of this position is to provide tier 1 technical support to the offices and departments of Upson County.  Successful performance helps ensure the efficient and effective operation of the county as a whole.

  • Contacts are typically to exchange information and to provide services; to give or exchange information and to resolve problems.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk, or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and computer room. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt or grease. The work is performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

      None.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent, and/or 2 years’ work experience in related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of PC and desktop hardware.
  • Working technical knowledge of current protocols, operating systems, and standards.
  • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
  • Ability to work within confined spaces such as wiring and equipment rooms.
  • Ability to conduct research into PC and software issues and products as required.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  • Ability for sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass drug test.
