Position Information

The purpose of this classification is to perform administrative and technical tasks supervising personnel and assisting in the preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment at the water and wastewater pump/loft station and facility warehouse.
 

Job Summary

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
Provides supervision, guidance and direction to assigned personnel; assigns and reviews work; evaluates work performance; maintains standards through the effective coordination of activities; provides training and instruction on work methods; resolves employee problems; provides recommendations regarding disciplinary action.
 
Directs and participates in the preventive maintenance and repair activities of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment and vehicles at assigned facilities.
 
Troubleshoots and repairs telemetry computers; maintains electrical, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
 
Maintains and repairs all electrical systems and components; provides assistance to licensed electricians and contractors with high voltage electrical work; assists in installing new equipment, removing small motors for repair and re-installing the same.
 
Maintains and repairs pumps, lawn mowers, chemical feeders, chlorinators, transmission fans, gear boxes, and other mechanical equipment; rebuilds, replaces parts and performs preventive maintenance.
 
Inspects and repairs air release valves, tanks and booster stations, and transmission line valves; provides all electrical services for the same.
 
Observes and monitors flow meters, amp meters, and pressure gauges to determine compliance with operating standards.
 
Performs maintenance and construction tasks involving electrical wiring, welding, carpentry work, HVAC systems, and general station maintenance.
 
Manages equipment, supply and material inventory of items needed to perform daily tasks; receives deliveries and ensures completeness of orders; monitors supply levels and places orders as needed.
 
Completes paperwork for work orders, maintenance records, and requests for supplies and equipment.
 
Transports personnel and equipment to job sites.
 
Remains on-call to performs emergency tasks as needed.
 
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
 
This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.
 
Performs other related duties as required.
 

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and/or electronic equipment at water and wastewater pump/lift stations with some experience leading a groups of assigned personnel; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess or obtain Wastewater System Operator certification and a commercial driver's license within one (1) year of hire.  Must possess or obtain Water System Operator certification within second (2nd) year of hire.
