What You Will Do:

As the Public Works Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the Public Works Department, aligning with the city's overall goals.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee daily operations, including maintenance, construction, and capital improvement projects.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of public works professionals.
  • Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to address concerns and promote public works initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
  • Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency response efforts, such as natural disasters or severe weather events.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (required). Master's degree (preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive management experience in public works, engineering, or a related field. Experience in project management and financial oversight is highly desirable.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. A valid driver's license and good driving record are necessary.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of public works operations, engineering principles, stormwater management, construction practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage large teams, complex budgets, and high-profile projects.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with the chosen candidate's qualifications and experience. The targeted annualized starting pay is between $153,000 and $182,000.
