Description

The Senior Planner performs professional planning functions in support of the Department of Planning and Development's operations.

Examples of Duties

  • Supports the successful implementation of the City's land development and permitting procedures;
  • Evaluates and processes applications for Planning Commission staff reports;
  • Evaluates land subdivision applications for compliance with the City's subdivision ordinance;
  • Conducts zoning reviews for occupational tax certificates, building permits, sign permits, zoning certifications, and land use applications;
  • Facilitates complex projects related to land use and development programs such as comprehensive plans or other plans related to growth, development, and redevelopment;
  • Interprets the City's Unified Development Code;
  • Conducts on-site reviews and inspections;
  • Analyzes site design, circulation, land use compatibility, utilities, and other facilities;
  • Assists with the administration of the City's housing program;
  • Assists the public, builders, property owners, staff, and others with general ordinance and code questions; Facilitates workshops, meetings, community outreach events, and public hearings;
  • Collaborates with GIS to maintain up-to-date zoning maps and land use maps;
  • Prepares staff reports for the Planning Commission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and three years of planning experience or a Master's Degree and two years of planning
  • experience;
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver's License;
  • Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques of planning


Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of relevant experience;
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification
