Job Title: Part-Time Site Development Plan Reviewer
Department: Community & Economic Development Services
Work Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week. Flexible scheduling is available.
Rate of Pay: $30-$40/Hourly DOQ
Purpose of Work:
The purpose of this position is to engage in and support the mission of the Public Works Department through planning, creative problem solving, decision-making, and responsible stewardship of City resources. This position will review and manage site development work on residential and commercial projects. Projects will involve complete understanding and enforcement of the City’s Unified Development Ordinance as it applies to site planning, design and construction.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reviews submitted construction plans for compliance with all relevant codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Drafts letters to construction professionals relaying comments and concerns on reviewed construction plans.
- Manages site development application engineering reviews to meet schedules and proactively communicates questions, concerns and project status updates in cooperation with a synergistic, fun team.
- Reviews site plans/site surveys and meets with developers, architects, engineers, and City residents to resolve problems and general construction issues, compliance issues and design flaws with creative environmental solutions.
- Receives and responds to problems, complaints, and issues from citizens regarding site development issues pertaining to design, stormwater management, and utility infrastructure, etc.; inspects problem areas personally as needed.
- Possesses a proficiency or understanding, interest, and capacity for innovative and contemporary civil engineering practices in as many of the following key areas as possible:
- Grading and drainage,
- Erosion control,
- Streambank protection,
- Floodplain Management,
- Stormwater Management,
- Incorporation of green storm water management practices,
- Site setbacks.
- Assists in the compliance and administration of City ordinances, codes, standards and best practices relating to civil engineering site design.
- Compiles and prepares reports and records; maintains site plan review logs; composes minor development approval letters and other correspondence as needed.
- Serves as a customer service representative for the engineering division by answering inquiries concerning engineering permits and plan compliance with codes, regulations and ordinances. Strong sense of professionalism to calmly represent the City when addressing complaints and difficult customers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, landscape architecture, Construction Management or related field from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of 3 years of broad and extensive experience in professional engineering work, and/or construction plan reviewing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering standards, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the design, construction and development of residential and commercial sites.
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in the handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems.
- Ability to understand and interpret design drawings, construction specifications and contract documents.
- Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver’s license (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR).
Physical Requirements:
- Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
- Regularly required to talk, listen, stand, and occasionally drive to complete construction plan reviews.
- Drives personal vehicle to job sites.
- May work in extreme weather conditions including heat and rain
