Job Title                                         PAYROLL COORDINATOR

SALARY                                             $26.5103 Hourly

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES              This position is responsible for managing the processing of complex biweekly payroll. Coordinates with other department personnel to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll. Accounts for and reports on all payroll transactions. Ensures compliance with laws governing proper tax treatment of wage payments, payroll tax withholdings, and assignment of wages. Prepares pension process documents for employees in coordination with the Pension Committee Secretary. Performs back-up duties to other jobs for the Human Resources Staff as designated. Remains informed of current developments related to the area of responsibilities. Performs related duties.

                                   

QUALIFICATIONS                             Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education or its equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices and applicable laws and regulations. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Governmental Accounting Principles. Knowledge of city payroll processes. Knowledge of city pension program. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the interpretation and explanation of complex information. Skill in meeting strict deadlines. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS                      The work is performed in an office environment.  The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking or stooping.  The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
