Listing Summary

The City of Johns Creek seeks an experienced and dedicated Planner III to join our Community Development Department. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with state planning laws, the City's Comprehensive Plan, zoning and sign ordinances, development, and other local regulations. The Planner III will contribute to shaping the community's future by managing land development and zoning applications and providing guidance on short and long-range planning activities.


Key Responsibilities:

•Review complex land use applications and permits, including subdivisions, master plans, building permits, land disturbance permits, sign permits, fence permits, zoning certification requests and development agreements, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
•Conduct pre-application meetings with developers to discuss development proposals and resolve plan deficiencies.
•Manage Rezoning, Special Use Permit, and Variance application processes.
•Conduct research, analysis, and site visits and present findings and recommendations through reports and presentations to various audiences, including City boards and officials.
•Provide guidance on zoning ordinances, adopted policies, and city codes, procedures and timeframes to developers and the public.
•Attend and participate in community, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, and Council meetings in the evenings and weekends as necessary.
•Draft amendments to the City's Zoning Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, and Development Regulations.
•Coordinate meetings with various stakeholders, including property owners, developers, architects, engineers, builders, contractors, attorneys, and others, and provide technical assistance on ordinance standards and processes.
•Respond to customer inquiries and provide excellent phone and in-person customer service.
•Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior-level staff and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
•At least four (4) years of professional planning and zoning experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
•AICP Certification.

Licenses and Certifications:
•Valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.

Key Skills and Abilities:
•Proficient in urban planning principles, zoning, land use theory, comprehensive planning and development regulations.
•Knowledge of planning software such as InDesign, Sketch Up, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and BlueBeam Revu.
•Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills.
•Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
•Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
•Ability to interpret and apply ordinances and policies effectively.
•Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
