Position Summary
This position is responsible for the custodial care and regular maintenance of city buildings.

Position Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists Park Operations Supervisor with the coordination and supervision of a crew of personnel.
  • Supervises and participates in the cleaning of waste receptacles; replacing liners.
  • Supervises and participates in the cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms; restocking restroom supplies.
  • Supervises and participates in the cleaning of lobbies, offices, hallways, etc.
  • Supervises and participates in the sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming of floors.
  • Supervises and participates in the dusting and polishing of furniture, blinds, vent grills, and window sills.
  • Sets up rooms for meetings.
  • Washes windows, walls, and baseboards.
  • Maintains supply inventory; stocks cleaning closets, suggests new cleaning equipment and new cleaning standards.
  • Reports facility and equipment repair needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists with other parks and recreation facilities maintenance as needed, including performing grounds maintenance activities.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the use of various cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Skill in operating such cleaning equipment as a vacuum cleaner.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Parks Operations Manager assigns work in terms of somewhat specific instructions. The Park Operations Crew Leader assists the Park Operations Supervisor in spot-checking completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature of propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES
Guidelines includes safety guidelines and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related technical and supervisory duties. The necessity of working around the public and the variety of tasks contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the work of a crew of custodial team members maintaining city buildings. Successful performance contributes to the provision of clean and attractive facilities for city employees, residents, and visitors.

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city team members, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, and motivate team members.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in city buildings. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision of an assigned crew of personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
