**Entry level pay is set for recruit school, however upon completion of Firefighter Certification and AEMT Certification, recruits are raised to a Firefighter/AEMT 2 level.**

JOB SUMMARY:
While training for advancement and certification in the Fire Department, the Firefighter I actively participates in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical operations, and all duties associated therein, assuring that fire stations and equipment are ready for emergency and non-emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responds to emergency calls including but not limited to fire suppression, salvage, overhaul, search and rescue, and pre-hospital emergency medical care, implementing actions necessary to save lives and property, assists Fire Marshal’s office in searching for evidence at suspicious fire scenes. Follows established safety procedures to achieve maximum benefits with the least risk of injury to firefighters or the public.
Maintains fire/emergency medical equipment and apparatus, assures that all equipment is functioning properly, checks communication equipment each morning, and reports all equipment malfunctions or missing supplies immediately to the officer in charge.
Conducts triage of multiple casualty incidents, determines severity of injuries, immobilizes patients, provided emergency medical care, transports patients to appropriate health care facility.
Assists in pre-fire planning, completes department forms and reports, and assists in instructing fire safety, prevention, and emergency medical care programs to the public.
Keeps station grounds clean and neat, cuts grass, paints where needed, cleans and maintains fire stations.
Learns the geography, roads, alternative routes, fire hydrant locations, and hospitals within the jurisdiction.
Participates in continuing education, training, and drills to maintain certifications.
Maintains health and physical strength required to complete job responsibilities.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
No experience required
Must meet state firefighting minimum standards
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
GA. Basic Firefighter certification within 12 months, NPQ FF II certification within 24 months.
NREMT-A certification within 24 months.
Valid class C driver’s license, must obtain valid class F within 6 months of hire.
Must meet all in-house testing requirements.

ADA MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Ability: Essential functions continuously require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing); to move about by walking; move oneself by crawling on hands and knees; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; and move about on hands and knees and feet; move/transport items over 100lbs. Incumbents constantly must think analytically; handle stress and emotion, concentrate on tasks, remember names and other details; examine and observe details; make decisions, and adjust to change. Additionally the essential functions require that incumbents be on-call and work irregular hours; attend regular work meetings and trainings;, handle confidential information, direct others; meet deadlines; operate equipment; use a computer/keyboard; use math/calculations; and stay organized.
Sensory Requirements: Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment; visually discern differences in color.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are continuously performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather; extreme hot or cold temperatures; humidity and moisture; possible bodily injury from hazards including biological, chemical, sharp objects/tools, heavy machinery, traffic; falling from high or exposed places, and falling objects; constricted spaces; moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery; fumes, gasses, odors, dust, grease, oil and mud; wet or slippery floors or surfaces and excessive noise. Incumbents will be required to work alone or with others continuously.
Additionally, essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to bodily injury from electrical or radiation hazards.
Essential functions may also require occasional exposure to extreme dry environments and hot temperatures from flame torches.
