Created in 1933, the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is the only state organization that represents municipal governments in Georgia. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its members.

The primary objective of this position is to act as a key financial liaison between the Finance & Accounting Department and the Managed Associations of GMA, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. The role is also responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records and preparing timely financial reports for assigned funds, in strict adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles.

Duties include:

Collaborates with Managed Associations to establish clear expectations and ensures timely, accurate, and comprehensible responses to inquiries from Program Managers overseeing the Managed Associations.

Prepares and delivers financial statements and supporting schedules on a monthly basis, ensuring adherence to established deadlines.

Manages and facilitates the monthly closing process, ensuring all necessary procedures are completed accurately and promptly.

Records financial transactions related to assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses by compiling and analyzing account data, and ensures accurate journal entries are made.

Creates journal entries and performs necessary adjustments and corrections, ensuring all entries are accurately recorded in the automated financial management system.

Prepares supporting schedules for accounting and monthly financial statements to ensure thorough and accurate documentation.

Assists with the analysis of financial statements on a monthly basis, identifying and explaining any variances to ensure financial accuracy.

Supports the annual financial audit process and assists with other reporting requirements as needed, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.

Maintains and reconciles subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and resolving discrepancies, ensuring accuracy across all transactions.

Reconciles bank and investment statements with the General Ledger, ensuring consistency and correctness in financial reporting.

Reviews, adjusts, and corrects accounting batches as necessary, ensuring alignment with organizational financial standards.

Assists with special projects and ad-hoc requests for various funds, providing timely and effective support as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, accounting or a related field required; one two years of experience in financial accounting or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
