nder direction of the City Administrator or her/his designee, the Public Affairs Intern is a three to sixmonth opportunity through partnership with AmeriCorps under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Program through which current college students and recent graduates have the opportunity to assist in conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing evidence-based policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the local level, and influencing policy outcomes on a range of critical issues regarding public health impacting the future of the City of Warner Robins. The opportunity offers valuable experience that contributes to the educational and professional growth of the individual while contributing to the betterment of the community in a meaningful way. The person selected would not be an employee of the City of Warner Robins. This position is responsible for assisting with conducting research including field surveys and interviews on diverse topics including public health, environment and sustainability, economic development, urban planning, and housing policy. Analyzes available data to assist in forming policy recommendations. Participates in regular policy discussions. Prepares meeting, briefing, and presentation materials. Assists in formulating responses to questions and requests for information from public policy makers, external partners, citizens, and media. Monitors newspaper, radio, television, and internet coverage of assigned programs and initiatives and suggests to Management supplemental information to correct any irregular or inaccurate media information. Monitors statements, legislation, and materials from policymakers and experts. Maintains database of legislative, policy-making, and partner contacts. Maintains positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support in assigned projects and initiatives.
