  • Documentation the applicant is a current undergraduate student or recent graduate with coursework/major in communications, public relations, journalism, advertising, marketing, English, or a related field.

Under direction of the City Administrator or her/his designee, the Communication and Public Affairs Intern is a three to six-month opportunity and is responsible for implementing communications tactics and campaigns that inform and educate internal and external audiences about the City’s priorities, goals, and initiatives and encourages citizens and partners to engage in the processes, programs, and activities of the City of Warner Robins. The opportunity offers valuable experience that advances the educational and professional growth of the individual while contributing to the betterment of the community in a meaningful way. The person selected would not be an employee of the City of Warner Robins. This position is responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, and preparing press releases, photos, flyers, presentations, and other materials directed to specific targeted audiences within the public, the media or government. Implements content strategy and develops social and traditional media content, including writing, editing, proofing, designing, and producing materials to drive public engagement and build awareness of assigned programs and services. Uses various methods to convey the City’s message including video, social media, press releases, newsletters, and other methods. Participates in developing and implementing equitable, innovative outreach and engagement strategies to reduce participation barriers, increase awareness, advance brand identity, and incorporate community input in City programs and initiatives. Helps to plan and carryout events such as forums, open houses, town halls, programs, and projects that increases positive awareness of assigned programs and initiatives. Monitors newspaper, radio, television, and internet coverage of assigned programs and initiatives and suggests to Management supplemental information to correct any irregular or inaccurate media information. Maintains media lists and news clips. Maintains positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support in assigned project
