JOB SUMMARY
Performs technical accounting work in support of the City's utility billing, accounts receivable
functions, and assists with other general accounting functions. This position is also able to provide
coverage in the absence of other accounting positions to provide specific backup duties as
assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Assists with processing customer’s utility payments and other revenue. Maintain and balance
a cash drawer.
• Assists with loading and unloading the held hand machines from meter reading.
• Prepares utility billing files, reviews the billing register, and process exception reports.
• Assists customers with setup of new utility accounts, extensions, adjustments, and cut-off.
• Process work orders; i.e. cut off/cut on/read in/read out/close out.
• Prepares accounts receivable invoices and apply payment when received.
• Process non-sufficient funds (NSF) checks, collection letters, cut off notices, etc.
• Process Senior and/or disabled accounts, security light contracts, special billing accounts.
• Manages complaints from internal and external customers effectively by providing clear and
accurate information and possible courses of action to resolve the issue(s).
• Resolve discrepancies or errors in cash receipts.
• Assist with ACH draft payments, rate adjustments, and sales tax reporting.
• Reviews and posts accounting data affecting the general ledger, such as payroll, utility billing,
deposits, accounts receivable.
• Prepares cash and check payment totals for the daily bank deposit; scans check deposits
through online banking.
• Provides assistance and back up to the Utility Billing Supervisor position.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years of progressively responsible
accounting/utility experience in one or more of the assigned areas of responsibility, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and in a field
environment; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch,
reach and twist; be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light (5lbs) to moderate (50lbs) amounts of
weight; be able to walk up and down flights of stairs; have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have hearing ability
sufficient to understand general in-person and telephone conversations; while performing the
duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; is frequently required to
stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will typically be performed inside an office.
