The Chatham County–Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) is seeking qualified applicants for the contract position listed below:
Contract Planner, Advance Planning/Special Projects
Reports to: Executive Director/CEO
Will work with the Executive Director/CEO and Advance Planning team on the updates to the City of Savannah and Chatham County Comprehensive Plans. Contract Planner will be responsible for:
Skills: Planner must possess strong Project management skills and techniques. Experienced in researching planning issues, land use planning, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting information graphically and in writing. Must have the ability to use research methodology and standard statistical procedures in applying economic, demographics and social data in Advance Planning. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written presentations. Required to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in all phases of work. Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and public presentation skills are essential. Previous hands-on experience in a collaborative work environment with land use, sustainability and resilience, urban planning, and project management is desired.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Master’s Degree or extensive experience is preferred. The candidate should have a degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field and ten (10) years of work experience in Planning, drafting Comprehensive Plans or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
