Civil Engineer, Roads & Engineering Department

Salary: $65,173.13

Under general supervision and instruction this position is responsible for the design and review of urban and rural transportation projects, for managing and inspecting civil works projects and for ensuring compliance with local, state and federal codes, rules and regulations. 

Qualifications/Knowledge:

• Baccalaureate Degree in a course of study related to the occupational field; must have a current valid driver's license
• 1 to 3 years experience in related field preferred 
• Must have certification as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training 
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices; knowledge of computer aided drafting (CAD) principles
• Knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology and sediment and erosion control principles
• Knowledge of transportation design principles
• Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local regulations
• Knowledge of research, data analysis and report preparation methods
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
• Skill in problem solving, prioritizing and planning 
• Skill in interpersonal relations
• Skill in directing the work of personnel
• Skill in oral and written communication

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directs, manages and assists with projects performed by external contractors and by department construction crews
• Coordinates projects with other offices, private businesses and with federal, state and local agencies
• Reviews construction plans for land disturbance permit approval; reviews erosion control plans
• Participates in Development Review Committee meetings; provides staff support for meetings of the Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission
• Develops and designs construction project plans and site layouts
• Performs all other related duties as assigned
