The City of Manchester is conducting an open search to fill the position of Police Chief due to the retirement of the Police Chief. Prospective candidates must be able to fulfill the duties, complete job functions, and meet the qualifications of the position. The City is looking to fill this positon on or before June 2, 2025. The first review of applications willl begin April 24, 2025.
This position under limited supervision, plans, organizes, coordinates, directs a variety of complex administrative, supervisory, and professional activities for the Police Department, directs and controls enforcement of federal, state, and local laws designed for the safety and welfare of the public, as well as assists and liaises the Municipal Court. The position reports to the City Manager.
The City is seeking an experienced law enforcement administrator with exceptional leadership, management, and necessary skills to transition the Manchester Police Department into a department recognized for its Excellence in Policing Standards. The City of Manchester is in Meriwether County, with a population of 3,584.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ten years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience (including five years of management and supervisory responsibility). In accordance with O.C.G.A Section 35-1-12, must be a certified peace officer with the State of Georgia. Ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Peace Officer's Standards and Trainings Act.
Must possess or be able to obtain Chief's Executive Training Program Certificate issued by the Georgia P.O.S.T. Council.
Knowledge and level of competency are commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to occupational field.
Expenience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of subunits in the department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Peace Officer's Standards and Training Act.
