ENTRY SALARY:  $29.99 per hour, plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY:   This position supervises and participates in assigned operations of the Sheriff’s Department. Supervises assigned division staff; trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel; conducts operational briefings and post-operational briefings; supervises the Field Training process. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations for improvement as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed. Performs administrative tasks in support of agency operations; develops and assigns work schedules; maintains personnel files; investigates complaints regarding departmental actions or specific personnel; completes required paperwork and documents; conducts accident investigations. Oversees and participates in the response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; collects required information and prepares necessary reports; performs preliminary investigations of crime and traffic accidents; enforces laws; performs fugitive and criminal apprehension and preventative patrol duties; prepares and/or serves various legal and civil documents and papers; attends local, state, and federal court proceedings; oversees complex investigations. Oversees and participates in patrol zone assignments; monitors traffic for violations; enforces local, state, and federal laws; responds to calls for assistance; maintains order and public safety; apprehends and arrests suspected violators and criminal suspects; responds to traffic accidents and incidents; collects evidence and participates in investigative operations; transports prisoners and mental patients. Oversees vehicle maintenance and repair activities; diagnoses and repairs emergency equipment; monitors vehicle operation for proper working order to ensure safety; conducts inspections and maintains fleet records. Conducts facility, equipment, and uniform inspections; conducts roll-call training. Supervises and participates in criminal investigations, including narcotics investigations; assigns cases to investigators; conducts criminal investigations; responds to crime scenes; gathers evidence; conducts internal investigations; provides testimony in court; interviews suspects, witnesses, and victims. Responds to major incidents; assumes command until relieved by superior officer. Performs the duties of the Lieutenant in his or her absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia. Preferred Qualifications / Experience in the fields of Crimes Against Children, Child Exploitation / Computer Crimes, Internet CAC Task Force, Advanced Sexual Assault / Child Abuse Investigations, FBI LEEDA Exec Leadership Training, General Instructor Certification
