The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is the state’s lead agency for disease prevention, health promotion, and disaster response. It is led by the Public Health Commissioner, a physician appointed by the Governor. DPH focuses on key areas such as disease prevention, women’s and children’s health, infectious diseases, environmental health, epidemiology, emergency response, EMS, pharmacy, nursing, low THC oil regulation, vital records, and public health laboratories.

DPH is seeking to hire four District Health Directors, with one position available in each of the following locations: Macon, Jonesboro, Lawrenceville, and LaGrange, Georgia. District Health Directors provide leadership, management, and strategic direction for public health programs and services within their designated district. This role oversees their respective public health departments, ensuring effective administration, budgeting, personnel management, and program development. District Health Directors lead strategic planning, monitor community health needs, and collaborate with local partners to enhance public health initiatives. Additionally, they provide oversight for financial management, human resources, emergency preparedness, and performance management to ensure high-quality, responsive public health services.

Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Non-Physician: Master’s (MPH) or higher (DrPH, PhD) in public health or a related field, plus two years of management-level experience in public health or healthcare.
  • Physician: Medical degree with a valid Georgia medical license (or eligibility) and two years of experience in public health, preventive, or private medicine.

The minimum base state salary for this position is $208,000.
