ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER
-Animal Control Officers maintain public safety by enforcing the Pike County Animal Control Ordinance.
-The working hours for this position can be irregular.
- Office hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
- Animal Control Officers are required to be “on call” or “stand by” for emergency situations on nights, weekends, Holidays and possibly be on an on-call rotation every other weekend.
-Animal Control Officers are required to receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations and boosters every 2 years.
Duties /Responsibilities:
- Receives calls from Dispatch, Deputies, or citizens and drives to location.
- Capturing and impounding dangerous and vicious dogs.
-Caring for impounded dogs daily and on weekends
- investigating reports of animal bites.
- investigating some cases of animal cruelty
- issuing citations and warnings
- providing testimony in court cases.
- writing detailed incident reports
- scanning animals for microchips
- handling of animals with possible rabies and following the correct procedures.
- posting lost and found pets on the Animal Control Face Book Page
- providing humane care to animals under their supervision
- Frequently interacting with the public
- help resolve problems and/or complaints
- clean and disinfect kennel areas, equipment, and vehicles
Required Skill/Abilities:
-Ability to remain patient in trying situations
-Understanding of animal control procedures and Ordinances
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-heavy lifting required
