Job Status: Seasonal; Days, Evenings, and/or Weekends

Position Purpose:

To further the mission of the camp through the development and delivery of field sports activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' age and abilities. Assist in the management with the physical operation of the field sports equipment and facilities.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Develop and instruct campers in your athletics activity that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers you are instructing.

2. Deliver progressive field sports activities, such as softball, baseball, soccer, football, flag football and other sports.

3. Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.

  • Assist in the implementation of staff training for field sports.
  • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.
  • Encourage Sportsmanship

4. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the field sports program area

  • Maintain all the field sports equipment related to your sport.
  • Ensure the security of the field sports equipment when not in use.
  • Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Clean field sports equipment on a set schedule.

Other Job Duties:

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those assigned.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise camp programs, special events, and other sports activities and camp functions.

Equipment:

1. Care for all equipment used during the summer.

2. If the equipment is damaged and found unsafe or beyond repair report this to your supervisor to re-order new material or parts.

Some physical requirements of a Sports Counselor position are endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and assist at camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, and communicate appropriately with campers at activities and other programs.

Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Willing to work in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, dogs, etc.

This position is a temporary position, independent contractor.  The hourly rate is between $15-$18 per hour, 20-35 hours per week.
