The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for an Accounting Analyst in the finance department.  This position performs a variety of administrative, moderately complex bookkeeping and accounting activities.  Duties vary broadly and encompass a wide range of accounting, analysis and report preparation, Work is performed and reviewed by the Chief Financial Officer.

Major duties include:

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for the City of Hinesville’s checking and savings accounts.
  • Responsible for QuickBooks accounting activities for committees assigned by the City of Hinesville
  • Perform periodic audits of Petty Cash and Cash Drawers.
  • Review and audit transactions for compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.  
  • Review and analyze account ledgers.
  • Track daily communications and respond to account related queries.
  • Collect, organize and analyze financial data for the preparation of financial reports and statistical data for both internal and external reporting
  • Prepare monthly journal vouchers and reclassification vouchers.
  • Update and maintain the Finance Department’s policies and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation.

Knowledge required by the position include:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of City ordinances, codes, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws governing municipal accounting operations.
  • Skill in operating such office equipment as a computer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine and typewriter, word processing and data programs
  • Skill in report preparation, records maintenance and organizing account records
  • Skill in written and oral communication and interpersonal relations.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field, or combination of specialized education and training in the field of work and related work experience. (Bachelor’s degree, preferred). The minimum starting salary for the position is $48,402.99 plus an excellent benefits package.
