Position Overview

The City of Ball Ground is seeking a collaborative and results-driven professional to serve as Assistant City Manager / Community Development Director. This dual-role position is essential to the City’s executive leadership team, responsible for overseeing community development functions and supporting the City Manager with a wide range of administrative and operational initiatives.

This position oversees key departments and functions, including:

  • Planning and Zoning
  • Building Permits and Inspections
  • GIS
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Comprehensive and Strategic Planning
  • Economic Development Initiatives

In addition to direct oversight of these areas, the Assistant City Manager will assist the City Manager in managing:

  • Municipal Utilities
  • Budget Preparation and Administration
  • Transportation Planning and Infrastructure Projects

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Political Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required.
    • A master’s degree is preferred.
    • Equivalent experience or specialized training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Significant experience in community development, planning, and zoning is essential.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal government or public administration, including supervisory and project management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and work effectively with elected officials, staff, and the public.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
