                                               Aquatic Facility Crew Leader

                                               $10.42 per hour

STATUS:               Part-time seasonal, up to 30 hours per week

 

BENEFITS:          There are no group benefits associated with this position

 

SCHEDULE:      Varies, hours are Monday – Sunday, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Aquatics Facility Crew Leader assists the Aquatics Facility Supervisor with the performance of administrative duties to assure a safe and efficient aquatic program and facility.  This includes assisting with the supervision of aquatics personnel and programs as well as taking an active role in those programs as swim-lessons instructor, lifeguard and pool attendant, as directed. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist in providing supervision of the pool and aquatic programs.
  • Assist in scheduling staff for lifeguard and instructor duties.
  • Assist in preparing pool for opening and closing, as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring facility operating schedule and make recommendations for changes in operating hours and/or staff hours to supervisor, as needed.
  • Assist in training new lifeguards and swim instructors and provide in-service training to current staff members.
  • Assist in handling and resolving the public’s concerns or complaints at the pool. 
  • Report all incidents to the Aquatics Facility Supervisor.
  • Assist in communicating pool operations’ policies and procedures to staff.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • One year (or season) experience as a Lifeguard.
  • Possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and DMV record.
  • Satisfactory background screening.

 

MANDATORY CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Lifeguard Instructor Course (LGI)
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • First Aid
  • CPR

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

 

  • Knowledge of aquatic facility administration.   
  • Knowledge of pool filtration, sanitary systems, and pool chemistry.
  • Skilled as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
  • Ability to assist in supervising pool and programs during operational hours.
  • Ability to assist in assuring the safe and efficient operation of aquatic program and facility.
  • Ability to assist in managing and scheduling of staff regarding assigned duties.
  • Ability to assist in preparing pool for opening and closing.
  • Ability to assist in setting the example in personal appearance and uniform and enforces the same of the pool staff.
  • Ability to assist in training new lifeguards and instructors and to provide in-service training to staff.
  • Ability to schedule staff and make recommendations for changes in operating hours.

 

Supervisory Controls: The incumbent receives work assignments from the Aquatics Facility Supervisor.

 

Guidelines: Guidelines include, in addition to adherence to City Personnel Policy, Federal, State and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

 

Complexity:  Work requires analysis and judgment in accomplishing diversified duties. Work requires the exercise of independent thinking within the limits of guidelines, policies, standards, and precedents.

 

Scope and Effect:  The purpose of this position is to perform duties to assure a safe and efficient aquatic program and facility.

 

Personal Contacts:  Contacts are typically with coworkers, the public, city employees, elected officials, and other local governmental officials.

 

Purpose of Contacts:  Contacts are typically for providing aquatic program and facility services.

 

Physical Demands:  The incumbent is regularly required to perform duties that require manual dexterity involved with swimming and instruction of the same, in addition to physical demands of Lifeguard duties.  Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

 

Work Environment:  The work is typically performed outdoors at the pool facility or in an office for associated administrative functions.

 

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:  This position has supervision over seasonal lifeguards, and pool facility attendants.
