The Paramedic performs various patient care activities, including Advanced Life Support (ALS) in a pre-hospital setting, in accordance with all rules and regulations set forth by the state Emergency Medical Services Commission. The paramedic is expected to maintain control of an emergency situation, provide training and instruction to EMT's or other assistants.
Performs pre-hospital duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations. Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable diagnosis.
Responsible for managing and directing EMT's and other first responders at the scene of a medical emergency.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Maintains all required certifications and participates in training sessions as directed.
Shall be punctual and ready for work shift.
Act at all times in a professional manner and demonstrate ability to handle conflict situations with good judgment.
Assist with operating the EMS communication center, and records obtained information.
Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for job Performance
Must possess all minimum education and certifications required for employment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be able to pass a minimum physical agility test.
Must be able to communicate effectively with patients of all ages.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
This work is performed at any time of day or night and in a variety of climate conditions. This work is done in partnership with paramedics and other EMS workers. Much of this work will be in situations of stress and requires the Paramedic to be able to work under pressure, be able to communicate effectively with patients and medical team partners and demonstrate good judgment.
This work may require the Paramedic to be able to lift patients to move them to safety or into an ambulance for transportation.
This work, during emergency situations, may require working extended shift periods.
