The City of Monroe is now accepting applications for the position of Water Treatment Plant Apprentice.  This position is responsible for assisting in operating the water treatment plant.


Qualified applicants must:

  • Have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of related training and experience.
  • Possess an appropriate state-certified license for water treatment or distribution; or able to obtain within six (6) months of employment.


To perform in this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


  • Knowledge of water treatment plant operations.


  • Knowledge of the handling and application of the chemicals necessary to maintain a safe water supply.


  • Knowledge of water system operations.       


  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures.


  • Skill in basic math and chemistry.


  • Skill in water plant operation.


  • Skill in the use of water analysis equipment.


  • Skill in oral and written communication.


  • Skill in the use of maintenance equipment


The City of Monroe offers a comprehensive benefit package.  Salary range for this position is from $29,770 to $44,655.  Actual starting salary within this range is dependent upon applicant’s qualifications.  Applications may be obtained at City Hall, 215 N.
