Senior Human Resources Manager

The City of Valdosta is looking to fill an opening for a Senior Human Resources Manager. The duties associated with this position are as follows:

  • Coordinates city payroll processes; makes payroll changes, including those associated with direct deposits, insurance deductions, promotions or demotions, garnishments, etc; adds and removes employees; completes bi-weekly vacation/sick leave accruals.
  • Completes employee retirement processes; prepares documentation for employees to complete; adds retirees to billing system; runs monthly invoices; assists employees with retirement questions.
  • Downloads weekly group insurance files and imports to computer system.
  • Completes requisitions for the payment of invoices.
  • Administers employee exit processes; completes separation notices and COBRA letters; tracks employees that elect COBRA.
  • Prepares and submits monthly department reports.
  • Prepares and submits life insurance claims.
  • Prepares insurance open enrollment forms; makes payroll deduction changes; updates group insurance website; assists employees with insurance questions.
  • Completes Georgia Municipal Association salary surveys.
  • Performs related duties.


  • Knowledge of human resources principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable, federal, state and local laws.
  • Knowledge of benefits management principles.
  • Knowledge of retirement processes.
  • Knowledge of the structure, functions and operations of city departments.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of city budgeting policies and procedures.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or related field from an accredited institution.Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Four years of management and supervisory experience across all years of job related experience
