LABORER II

An employee in this position performs semi-skilled/unskilled work associated with Public Works Department. Work involves servings as Crew Leader; acting as backup on sanitation leaf and recycle truck; serving as backup driver for open beds, leaf truck, and sweeper when needed; operating tractors, right-of-way tractor, and mowers; performing tree and brush trimming when needed; and serving as a member of the Emergency Crew.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Excavate, build and repair catch basins with brick, block, and cement
  • Repair and install storm pipe
  • Repair and maintain ditches
  • Clean storm drains, structures, ditches and creeks
  • Perform confined space entries when needed
  • Inspect inlet/outlet structures, outfalls, stormwater utility covers
  • Inspect businesses, facilities, and construction sites for illicit discharges and highly visible pollutant sources
  • Assists in GIS stormwater data collection for the City’s infrastructure
  • Estimate materials and make sure correct materials are on site
  • Set up traffic control when necessary
  • May serve as crew leader
  • Receives and/or reviews work orders and complaints
  • Prepares and/or processes records and reports
  • Supports inclement weather operations and responds to and participates in emergency calls on a 24-hour basis
  • Assists with other departments as requested and needed
  • Operates City vehicles and heavy equipment in the performance of duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with one (1) years of previous experience and/or training involving general maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  GSWCC Blue Card Certification strongly preferred. Must possess a valid Class A CDL State Driver’s License.
