The purpose of this classification is to coordination, planning and promoting of special events and park and recreation programming. Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, process employee concerns and problems, direct work, counsel, discipline, and complete employee performance appraisals.  Provide guidance and direction to assigned subordinate staff on a daily basis; organize, prioritize, and assign work; create and distribute staff schedules; and assist with complex/problem situations.  Coordinate City events: assist in the formation, modification and improvement of programs in the community and develop opportunities for learning and growth.  Perform related administrative tasks; plans, coordinates and implements marketing and publicity strategies related programming and events; prepare and present public presentations. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with media contacts; respond to public information requests. Create, manage, and implement social media tools to support and communicate Community Center information, activities, and messages and City special events. Inspect all park facilities to ensure supplies are on hand and there is a safe and proper environment for patrons during events. Prepare content for print and electronic newsletters; manage layout, editing, and publication of newsletters. Recruit volunteers for special events and supervise volunteers selected based on qualifications. Schedule facility rentals; prepare for scheduled events; set-up meeting rooms; decorate for special events; maintain related documentations. Oversee and implement various group activities, programs and community events; plan, organize, supervise and conduct programs and activities; ensure adequate staffing for activities and programs; process registrations.  Prepare daily and monthly bank deposit; gather funds; verify counts; prepare deposit statements; deposit funds; maintain related documentation. Assist with the implementation and update of related policies and procedures; provide input into the long-range planning for the department. Interact with citizens to develop adequate programming; provide technical assistance to citizens and volunteers by answering program-related questions; interact with other departments to exchange information and ideas. Perform general customer service and administrative duties as required; receive and respond to inquiries, concerns, and complaints of citizens regarding recreation programs, policies and/or personnel; attend meetings; assist customers; answer the telephone; prepare reports and correspondence; maintain documentation. Assist in developing and implementing recreation center budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget.  Communicate with supervisor, City employees, contractual employees, volunteers, sales representatives, sponsors, the general public, or other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction. Updates and maintains recreation information on City website.  Attend seminars, professional /district meetings, and workshops related to job functions and keep apprised of developments or changes in municipal government and local, state, and federal law.  Update and enhance knowledge of contemporary communication practices and methods covering all forums. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, Leisure Services, Parks and Recreation, Business, Public Administration, or related field preferred; supplemented by one (1) to three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
