Accounts Payable Technician

Augusta-Richmond County

Listing Summary


The purpose of this classification is to perform data entry and clerical work in support of accounts receivable functions and to maintain financial records.



  • Processes documentation pertaining to accounts receivable: receives payments for various fees/services; records cash receipts; makes file copies; balances receipts; posts payments and adjustments to accounts; researches checks received without identifying information or checks returned for insufficient funds; and prepares related reports and records.
  • Processes deposits made by departments: issues deposit slips to departments; receives and reviews deposit slips monitors and verifies deposits made by department; reconciles bank accounts; and enters deposits into General Ledger.
  • Enters financial information into a computer in order to process transactions and update records: performs routine posting and account maintenance functions; enters debits, credits, transfers, and adjustments; and responds to requests for account information.
  • Participates in other accounting duties as assigned: processes and files voided checks; picks up night deposits; and processes and deposits juror checks.
  • Performs customer service functions: answers telephone calls, greets visitors, and assists individuals; provides information/assistance regarding department services, activities, procedures, documentation, fees, or other issues; distributes, processes, and/or assists customers with completion of various forms/documentation; and responds to routine questions / complaints and initiates problem resolution.
  • Assists external auditors by researching financial information.


Education: High School, or G.E.D.

Experience:  Three (3) years in accounts receivable or bookkeeping or maintaining financial records.


  • Requires the ability to persuade and/or influence others to coordinate programs or activities of a project, and resolve typical problems associated with the responsibilities of the job.
  • Proficiency in using computers, standard business application software, and other office equipment.
  • Proficiency in mathematical computation and the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
  • Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.


  • Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history.  If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
