Alpharetta seeks an entrepreneurial, dynamic, energetic, and creative professional with a proven track record in business recruitment and retention as its next Director of Economic Development (DED). The selected candidate will be an outstanding salesperson with a passion for economic development and a status-quo disruptor.  The City operates under a strong mayoral form of government and the Director will work closely with the Mayor, City Council, City Administrator, and staff to assist the City’s existing businesses in their retention and growth, revitalization efforts of targeted retail and office developments, and in the recruitment of new businesses.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration, economics, or a related field is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. The selected candidate should have at least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in economic or business development including two years of project management. Experience must include three years of responsible management and administrative responsibility. Candidates that possess any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will also be considered.

Preference may be given to candidates with added skills such as Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation, Master Economic Development Practitioner (MEDC), Professional Community & Economic Developer (PCED) certification, and/or similar credentials, or extensive experience in real estate development. The hired candidate must also possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
