This position is responsible for performing a variety of un-skilled and semi-skilled duties associated with the cleaning of city streets, right-of-ways, medians, storm water drainage areas, retention basins, bridges, facilities, properties and other sites under city obligation. Performs scheduled litter pick up on city streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm water drainage systems, bridges, retention basins, and other properties under city obligation. Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects and activities, which may include weed eaters, blowers, mowers, and chainsaws; learns how to operate dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, water truck, tractors and associated attachments, and other related equipment. Collects litter from city maintained right of ways in support of city mowing and repair operations. Responsible for working as a team member of the crew and steadily and efficiently and insure all litter is collected. Responsible for wearing personal protective equipment and be aware of your surroundings and the traffic near where you are working. Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety. Reports any damage, vandalism or graffiti to city properties. May respond to emergency situations as needed involving accidents, road spills, debris, or other situations; performs traffic flagging activities to assist with traffic control when necessary. Performs related duties.
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. No experience and / or requirements. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of public works litter disposal methods and procedures. Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of equipment and tool operation and maintenance practices, Knowledge of traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation.
