The City of Duluth, Georgia (pop. 30,000) is accepting applications for the position of full-time PARKS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I (Athletic Field Maintenance) in the Parks & Recreation Department.
This position performs manual work which is performed alone or as part of crew, involving a variety of tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of City parks, grounds, buildings, and facilities. Employees are required to perform moderately heavy physical labor in all types of outdoor weather using a variety of tools and equipment. Employees must be skilled in operating light and heavy equipment, and perform related duties as required. This position requires working various days of the week (including many weekends), and various hours of the day, which are subject to change on a weekly basis depending on the events scheduled. The employee must be able to work independently without close supervision. Will be on-call as necessary to take care of unexpected problems or emergencies.
(1) In particular, this employee will generally be assigned to work on the various athletic fields, i.e., baseball/softball and football/soccer fields. This involves lawn care maintenance of the fields and preparation of the fields for games, as well as maintenance of irrigation systems, and the application of herbicide/pesticides.
(2) Applicants with previous athletic field/turf maintenance, irrigation, and herbicide/pesticides experience and/or training, and the ability to work independently, are strongly preferred.
A High School diploma, state-issued GED, or equivalent is required. All candidates are subject to a background investigation, including criminal history, driving history, drug testing and medical exams.
Hiring pay range is $17.66 - $22.66 per hour; Grade 18, ($36,733 - $47,132 annualized). Starting salary is based on qualifications.
