The City of Milton is looking for a highly qualified individual to serve as a Project Engineer.

Manages a variety of civil engineering tasks by developing and overseeing programs involving research, planning, design and maintenance of City right of ways including local streets and infrastructure.  Project engineers perform professional tasks at the managerial level by supervising and overseeing project development, addressing engineering and administrative requirements, following established procedures, policies and practices. This position also collaborates with other tasks such as programmatic and comprehensive planning, development review, preparation and presentation of reports.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Studies areas in which new streets and infrastructure is to be built, ensuring that the area meets legal standards.  
  • Plans and supervises the mapping and construction of new streets and infrastructure.
  • Studies the infrastructure, traffic patterns and areas for improvement, project engineers prepare and present reports related to all areas of the field.
  • Investigates and determines needs of area or community and evaluate traffic conditions.
  • Oversees the filing of required county and state engineering reports. Assists in the preparation and submittal of NPDES stormwater reports.
  • Designs layouts for projects. Requires the ability to use Computer Aided Drafting programs such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Maintains records of findings and prepares reports.
  • Reviews and approves plans for compliance with applicable rules, regulations, ordinances and laws, and engineering principals and standards.
  • Meets, assigns, consults and assists contractors, engineers, government agencies and the general public using ordinances, laws, engineering principals and City regulations to resolve engineering issues.
  • Attends and participates in meetings related to various projects.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as required.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field; three years of experience in engineering design and management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Satisfactory MVR and ability to attain a Georgia Driver’s License. Professional Engineer or Engineering in Training License in the State of Georgia or the ability to obtain is preferred.
