The City of Monroe is now accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator I. This position is responsible for the operation of lightweight equipment such as tractors, mowers, brooms, etc.  It may receive additional instruction from an assigned lead worker.  This position may also be required to perform basic manual labor throughout the City of Monroe in the various divisions of the Public Works department.

Qualified applicants must:


  • Have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of related training and experience.  One to two years of experience is desired Certificates, license.
  • Must have possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.  Possession of or ability to readily obtain a flagging certification.  (License, certificates, professional certifications, etc., which are required). 
  • Must be currently cleared without restriction in the FMCSA Clearinghouse to immediately perform FMCSA Safety Sensitive duties as a DOT regulated Driver under 49 CFR parts 382 & 391.

  • Must have the ability to effectively operate assigned equipment.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50-100 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to withstand long periods of standing in possible extreme weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to follow instructions.
  • Must have the ability to pass National Safety flagging certification test.
  • Must have the ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Must have the ability to read and write.


The City of Monroe offers a comprehensive benefit package.  Salary range for this position is from $28,000 to $33,200.  Actual starting salary within this range is dependent upon applicant’s qualifications.  Direct Deposit is a requirement.  Applications may be obtained at City Hall, 215 N.
