The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation is committed to setting the standard of excellence for safe and efficient mobility. Serving the traveling public through our aviation, transit and surface transportation systems, the department consists of four groups: Intermodal Operations; Capital Program Delivery; Transit Program Delivery; and Traffic Engineering, Operations and Maintenance.

The Department maintains an infrastructure system that includes more than 2,650 miles of road and right of way, over 740 signalized intersections, the Gwinnett County Transit System and one of the three busiest airports in Georgia. The Department performs this mission with 175 approved full-time positions and a 2021 adopted operating budget of $48.7 million in multiple funds.

This Engineer V position is assigned to the Planning Section within the Program Delivery group. This section is tasked with quantifying the impact past and future development activities have upon the transportation infrastructure. The Engineer V position will be responsible for assisting in these efforts.

The grade for this position is D621 with a salary range of $81,245 - $134,054. The chosen candidate’s salary will be based on their qualifications.
Essential Duties
Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assists Section Manager in prioritizing and tracking projects; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring recommendations.
  • Reviews plans to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and plan specifications. May include review of rezoning requests, development regulation modification and waiver requests, and zoning variance requests.
  • Participates in the development of long-term transportation planning efforts, such as the county’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan, SPLOST, and other similar local and regional planning ventures.
  • Assists in the preparation of the section budget, management of engineering and consultant contracts, development of RFP's, administration of designs, and provide other support related to departmental capital budgets.
  • Serves as a technical advisor to other departments regarding engineering issues as a registered Professional Engineer. 
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and
  • Six years of progressively responsible engineering experience, some of which should be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid driver's license from state of residency
  • Professional Engineer License
